Introduction of Coluracetam

Oxiracetam increases learning, memory, and is widely used for neuro protective capabilities.

Enhances memory and learning
Potent stimulant
Protects against brain damage
Used to treat Alzheimer’s / aged related memory loss

Benefits

Oxiracetam has many beneficial properties that can improve memory and learning within certain individuals. Numerous studies have shown oxiracetam to prevent damage to the brain from injury or natural neuro degradation. For example, a study on post-concussion syndrome showed that oxiracetam was more effective than piracetam in preventing memory loss.

Aside from neuro-protection, oxiracetam can enhance memory and learning. The drug increases cellular ATP and stimulates choline uptake for more efficient acetylcholine uptake, which is required for improved cognitive ability.

Some studies have shown oxiracetam to also improve attention and concentration, which can be utilized by younger users and those suffering from mild to moderate dementia.

Dosage

Most testing indicates doses of 3 – 30 mg/kg with 100mg/kg as the maximum dosage. Common recommendations are 800mg – 2400mg per day between 1 – 3 doses. It may be best to start with smaller doses and note changes before increasing.

Oxiracetam is well-absorbed with as much as 84% reaching the bloodstream unchanged. The peak serum level is 1 – 3 hours after a single dose with a half life of 8 hours (for those without renal impairment). Oxiracetam is found in the septum, hippocampus, and cerebral cortex with the least in the striatum.

Mode of Action

Like other drugs in the racetam family, oxiracetam’s exact mode of action is unknown. One theory includes higher choline uptake for increased acetylcholine utilization. Another study shows that oxiracetam acts on receptors in the brain that are linked to memory and neuroplasticity.

Toxicity

Oxiracetam is handled well with studies showing no adverse effects with 1 g /kg in rats. Racetams can cause headaches, nausea and unrest in high or extreme doses. It is not advised to exceed recommended doses without additional health information.
